When we started Miyahara and Associates, LLC, we weren't just launching a business we were answering a call we both felt throughout our careers: the need to do better for our students, families, and the educators that serve them.
The idea for this work didn't begin in a boardroom - it started over breakfast. After I retired, Jackie and I began meeting twice a month at Snooze, just to catch up and share stories over Pineapple Upside-Down Pancakes. At first, it was fun and laughs, sprinkled with a bit of venting, but slowly our conversations turned toward something more. We started dreaming about what was possible, what was needed, and how we might build something that reflected our shared values and vision. Eventually, those dreams turned into plans, and somehow the dream came true.

Between the two of us, we bring decades of experience across the field of education. We began working together in the Special Education Department at Denver Public Schools, but our connection quickly extended beyond the professional. Like so many educators, we bonded over food and crafts - sharing ideas, envisioning projects, and moments of inspiration that reflected our shared values. My professional focus was in Early Childhood Special Education, while Jackie's expertise centered on K-12 Special Education and Assistive Technology. Though our roles were different, our work was deeply aligned. At the core, we are both committed to designing learning environments where every child can thrive.
We have seen firsthand how complex and layered the systems are and have also seen the gaps. Too often, well-intentioned initiatives fall short because they overlook the people most impacted. Families feel unheard, educators feel overwhelmed, and districts struggle to find the right tools and partners.
At Miyahara and Associates, we believe that it doesn't have to be this way. We specialize in bridging those gaps with thoughtful, equity-driven, people-centered support. Whether we're helping a school district improve systems and capacity, guiding a school through program development, providing a thorough Independent Educational Evaluation, or working with organizations to align strategy with real-world needs, our approach is always collaborative. We listen first, then roll up our sleeves to do the work that we love.
Throughout our careers, Jackie and I have had the privilege of meeting some truly incredible people - colleagues whose passion and expertise have inspired us. We are honored that some of them have chosen to join us on this journey. Together, our team covers every facet of special education support, allowing us to tailor our services to the unique needs of each family and each community we serve.
This blog will be a space to share insights, stories from the field, tools that we love, and reflections on what it means to do this work with integrity and heart. I hope it will also spark conversations with you.
Whether you're a parent, educator, administrator, or fellow consultant, we invite you to join us as we explore new ways to support the people at the heart of education. Let's reimagine what's possible - together.
Warmly,
Jane Miyahara, Founder
