Hello
Hi, I’m Jane Miyahara—educator, leader, and lifelong advocate for children and families. With decades of experience in early childhood and special education, I’ve gone from teaching in Head Start classrooms to shaping programs and policies at the state and national level. No matter the role, my goal has always been the same: create stronger systems that give every child the chance to thrive.
My Story
Hi, I’m Jane Miyahara, and for more than three decades I’ve had the privilege of leading change in early childhood education and Special Education. From classrooms to state policy, I’ve worked at every level to improve systems, strengthen programs, and ensure that children and families get the support they deserve.
My leadership journey began in Head Start, where I saw how high-quality early learning paired with strong family partnerships can transform lives. I carried that vision into Adams 14 School District, then into statewide policy work at the Colorado Department of Education, where I supported all 172 school districts in building stronger preschool programming and Child Find systems. Later, I returned to Denver Public Schools—the district where I grew up—to drive system and quality improvements. Along the way, I’ve consulted in cities across the country and served on advisory committees at the local, state, and federal levels, always advocating for better outcomes for children.
When I retired from public service in 2022, I knew my work wasn’t finished. I founded Miyahara & Associates, LLC to bring together a team of experts dedicated to helping families, school districts, and organizations navigate challenges and achieve lasting results.
Before my career in education, I earned my BA in American Studies from the University of Hawaii and worked for organizations including the Smithsonian Institution, the Japanese American Citizens League, and the DC Government—roles that deepened my understanding of culture, community, and leadership.
Outside of work, I love traveling, finding great food, and quilting with my two cats, Benny and Joon, by my side. Leadership to me isn’t about titles—it’s about vision, collaboration, and the courage to keep moving forward, and I’m excited to continue that work in the years ahead.
